Why Meghan Markle won’t be a princess

The world is abuzz with the news of an upcoming royal wedding. Currently fifth in line to the throne, Prince Harry will marry actress Meghan Markle next spring. It is widely reported that Meghan will become a princess, but here is the reason why she won’t.

As a general rule, only those born into the royal family can use the title Prince or Princess, then their first name, such as Prince George and Princess Charlotte. It is quite complicated, and an old ranking system known as the Peerage. The ranking is Duke, Marquess, Earl, Viscount and Baron. The most common titles used in the British royal family is Duke and Duchess.

Of course this is completely at the Queen’s discretion, but is is tipped that Prince Harry and Meghan will become the next Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
